Corona positive vs. ‘Typhoid Mary of Corona’ – Is corona a predator or decomposer?
A very reputed, non-partisan Tamil news channel - Thanthi TV
has recently interviewed a person who tuned positive for corona on landing to
Trichy from Dubai and had spent a reasonable period of time in quarantine and
was then released after tested negative for virus. https://youtu.be/7HLajYF9pUo
The revelations of the person who came out of quarantine in
Tamil Nadu must be seen both from epidemiological perspective and how Tamil
Nadu government under EPS is handling the issue of corona pandemic in an
outstanding manner.
On March 17, the person under the interview reported to have
suffered from throat infection, fever, cold and consulted the physician in
Dubai and got the medicines and got completely cured within 2 days.
On March 21st the person returned to Trichy from
Dubai and after two days, he was traced by the government of TN, tested and
turned positive for the virus. And
approximately 20 days it took for him to turn negative for corona.
It means, nearly 25 days or more has been taken for the virus
to clear from the system but he got rid of the medical distress within 2 days
of treatment in Dubai. Since the said
individual had definite history of returning from Dubai, government of Tamil Nadu
could immediately track him and do all the needful to prevent the possible spread
of the virus.
Imagine, if someone
within our population is already infected and got rid of the clinical problems
without knowing they were infected by corona, how can we prevent the spread the
virus through such individuals by shutting down the county?
The government agency
identifying such cases is also almost impossible. By assuming such possibility, can we pu
everyone in the prison in the name of quarantine?
We cannot rule out the
existence of such possibility in India.
Many ‘Typhoid Marry’ of corona in our population are likely to exist and
spread the virus.
India cannot escape
corona infection and possibly every individual in India is going to get
infected by corona if not today, tomorrow.
The rate of spread of the virus is quite high and therefore we have less
to worry due to strong evolutionary reasons.
The virus spreads fast
only to enhance its survival and if the virus can enhance its survival in the same
host it had already invaded, why the virus should spread to others.
From the evolutionary
sense, Corona is exhibiting more of a scavenger or decomposer behaviour than as
a primary predator.
The chance virus in establishing
long term association with elderly people, obviously due to poor rate of cell
cycle and other factors is quite high than in younger population, which again clearly
supports only the above hypothesis.
All age groups are
equally susceptible to catch the virus but the possibility
of the virus establishing its kingdom is high in aged group. It means, the virus may be looking for
abundant weak to near dead cells to colonize and survive.
POSITIVE CASE OF CORONA
AND TYPHOID MARRY OF CORONA, BOTH ARE GOING TO EXIST IN INDIA EVEN IF MODI
DECIDES LOCK DOWN THE COUNTY TILL 2024.
Lock down is not the solution. While protecting the vulnerable group, we also
must prevent/reduce the movement of those who may carry the virus without any
symptoms or otherwise called ‘typhoid mary of corona’.
The student population are the one who can act as silent
carriers of the virus and hence shutting the educational institutions at least
till July 2020 is necessary.
The political message of the interview of the person who got
released from quarantine clearly reveals that the state Tamil Nadu has shown an
exemplary leadership to deal the pandemic.
Tamil Nadu has a history of promoting social justice. However social justice is only a political slogan
for DMK but MGR and Amma J Jayalalithaa practiced social justice in letter and
spirit. Now the political protégé of Amma and MGR, EPS
has shown the state clarity and confidence in dealing the problem of corona and
also achieved grand success. The person
in the interview lavished his thanks to the state and EPS for the humane
approach and kind way of handling of the issue, called medical justice.
Risk groups and potential ‘transmitters’ (student group) of
the virus must be restricted from moving around and congregating in any single
spot which is naturally the educational institution to spot the spread of the
virus. That is possible only by closing
down the schools and colleges for another three months so that new ‘silent’
hotspots of corona from emerging, we can minimize. Corona has come to stay here and not to leave
us, let us be prepared. S Ranganathan
