Confidence alone can beat COVID, infuse confidence not fear of virus and lock-down inevitability

 

When science tends to favour politics or politics tempts to bend science to please the political boss, the by-product of the above- the fear and ignorance will not only destroy the nation but also finally the originator of the same. What we witness today in India is the crude brutal politics, indifference and irresponsibility among our political class, thanks to the wholehearted support of our medical science to the same. 

More than the second wave of COVID, the politics of opposition is only seems to be defeating India by our political class making mountain out of molehill.  Certainly Modi cannot wash his hands so easily for creating such a situation.  He was the one who started the lockdown politics, political pride over controlling the pandemic and preventing millions of deaths, development of vaccine and its export.  It looks like, to counter his pride, the oxygen politics is happening in the country partly and or fully sponsored by our opposition camp.  Unfortunately our country is paying the price and poor people the natural victims. 

In a country like India, the viral infections in particular cannot be prevented and at best we can only delay the spread.  When we attempt to delay it, naturally we will be allowing the viral pandemic to stay for a while than making it disappear quickly.   Such long or short modicum period given to the virus may also likely to favour the virus to understand India better and then strike.  It looks like the virus has customized itself to the India condition.  Blaming poor people for not being vigilant, not following all the necessary guidelines etc., is not going to work.  When people battle for life with their meagre earning due to the severe effect of lockdown, asking people to follow guidelines of COVID may look strange because their first priority is to earn for living.  If we had not affected their livelihood by not imposing disastrous lockdown, then asking people to be extremely strict would make some sense but we used the disastrous measures too early and caused panic among people from both the disease per se and also due to lockdown. 

Even today, India is the safe haven of several most neglected third world pathogens like intestinal worms, amoeba, dengue, chikungunya besides deadly Salmonella, typi, Malaria, Vibrio cholera etc.  India is also gaining the fulcrum status of Diabetes in the world.  Our inherent immunity to combat many communicable diseases is extremely high which always had shocked and surprised the world outside of India.  That is India.  We should prepare our people to deal the pandemic through extending kind and friendly support system and not by imposing life threatening punishment called nationwide lockdown. 

By isolating the virus in a few cluster, we claimed too much of victory obviously for the political gain.  COVID is one of the easily manageable diseases by large proportion of our population but we made horrible and fearsome caricature out of COVID and made the life of people miserable. Death of any individual with the virus, we made as if it was due to the virus.  When the central government can take advantage in curbing COVID and justify the brutal lockdown, naturally every state would expect the same centre to deal the second wave as well.  But the interest of central government in dealing the second wave of COVID is over as it appears because no more juice is left in it to make the political dish, tasty.  Hence the central government has handed over the responsibility to the respective states.  Now it is the turn of the states to give back the same coin to the central government. 

When Modi can make the failure also as great success and the economic disaster called brutal lockdown as a great measure, the states also would play the same politics to prove India has failed under Modi to curb COVID by exposing as much uglier situation as possible about India.  It is so sad and sickening.  It was all started by Modi. 

Need of the hour is confidence and complete support to people.  With confidence and courage, India can beat COVID easily than with fear and lockdown.  Modi should not get affected by the oxygen politics of the opposition.  How much ever we prepare, pandemic can still cause lacuna in our system and can affect the people.  Therefore our preparedness is a journey and continuous learning and it cannot be the destination.  Without affecting the livelihood and employment scope of people, we must empower people to follow self-discipline. 

Those who know microbiology of coronavirus will certainly say, the problem of COVID will disappear soon.  People with various underlying problems may exhibit differently to the virus which is true and such responses only can be expected towards any new pathogen.  But such strange medical response towards the virus by select group of people should not be generalized and make the common man also to fear of such complications. 

Most of the viral infections are self-limiting.  COVID is no exception in large proportion of our population.  The best way we can give confidence to people is by assuring them of their livelihood and employment and simple approach to deal the problem at home.  No one in India can escape from the virus; therefore confident approach in dealing the viral attack alone will help us and not running away from the virus.  More we run, more we are going to be chased by the virus.  Therefore we need to be vigilant, confident and fully prepared to deal the pandemic.   Lockdown can only prolong the agony and never going to solve the pandemic in India.
