Can we prevent ‘medical Darwinism’ from COVID happening in India?
When the world is running after COVID to chase it down either
with PCR test kit or with half-cooked vaccine (s), besides complicating the
life of people by imposing meaningless lockdown and other nonsense, are we also
dare to at least ask the fundamental question of can we prevent ‘medical
Darwinism’ from happening and like how we posed our objections and protests against
‘Social Darwinism’?
Darwinian Theory of natural selection in the realm of
evolution asserts that the fittest alone would survive and so shall the trait
or traits that are required to survive alone shall transmit to the next
generation. Before we subjective and
highly emotional to differ to the views in the article, are we willing to look
at the COVID surge scientifically; i.e., both from evolutionary as well as from
economic perspective.
If we really make big
noise over double mutant or triple mutant surge and describe it to be more
fatal and communicable than the first one, we also must realize that it is not
just the virus that mutates to accommodate itself in its new host or ecosystem successfully,
the host also would evolve either to eliminate or limit or to go friendly with
the new invader. Since the virus is a very simple structured
organism, we could see the mutation so easily but we miss the same in man and
other vertebrates obviously due to the complex structure.
The question is do all
infected people evolve develop the traits to check the virus from harming them
required to be answered from posing an equally another important counter
question, do all viruses that invades man becomes double mutants or billions of
them would also die in the process.
The question should not be obliterated or distorted to say
the author favours human death like that of the virus. The debate is centred more towards science
than from viewing the issue from ethical or emotional or relationship domain.
When a new invader enters human host, both the host and the invader
bounds to endure ‘some struggle’ to equilibrate the relationship and in the
process causality become inevitable to both the parties. It is like a country waging war against
another country. Both the winner and
looser are going to suffer huge loss and measuring the loss as who suffered the
most either with spring balance or other gadgets is not going to make any
sense.
When the world where naturally evolved ‘SCID Mice’ population
due to ‘extra virgin hygiene’ quality of life lives and reports their
experience with COVID, we the Indians must receive the same science differently
because the Indian health canvas is totally and ruthlessly different from EU
countries or USA.
In India, we live alongside of Salmonella, Shigella,
Mycobacterium tuberculosis, Leptospira, Plasmodium spp’; (malaria causing
parasite), Hepatitis B virus, the world of intestinal parasites, worms
etc.
Several most neglected third world diseases like Dengue,
Chikungunya etc., also show their deadly presence at different seasons in
different parts of India. Therefore
juxtapose our India over the immunity canvas of US or EU countries will only
defeat us and will not do any good to us.
If we had told our
people about the emergence of a new pathogen in a friendly manner, told them to
follow all necessary precautions, list of OTC like medicines that they can rely
on in the beginning and reports to the nearest hospital only when they finds it
difficult to manage and allowed normal life to flow along with COVID, India
would have dealt COVID more successfully than what we face today.
We messed up the situation by creating extreme fear among
people. Today every death in India is
attributed to COVID as if no other pathogen is capable of killing people and so
shall other non-communicable diseases. What
we witness today is partly the real medical problem and partly the heartless
politics played out both by some politicians and some in medical fraternity.
We will become fittest only when we encounter the challenge
and not hide from the challenge. Imagine
if a deer does not find space to run away from the chasing hunter- Cheetah, how
the deer would develop legs to run fast, and develop eyes, nose and ears to
sense the predator in advance etc. So
shall the predator. In the process of natural selection, a few
deer may die and so shall the predator also may suffer starvation death that is
quite natural.
Can we prevent ‘medical
Darwinism’ from happening? When COVID
decides to attack man and it will spare only the ‘fittest’, how long we can
lock down the country to protect the ‘weakest; or ‘ the susceptible’?
First and foremost we do not even know who is the fittest and
who is the susceptible. The way we find
the spread of the virus based on the number of positive cases versus those who
need ICU support, the virus is silently hiding in several people without
harming them. If that is the modus
operandi of the virus means, how can we prevent the virus from emerging and
re-emerging time and again like Lord Vishnu who took ten incarnations?
We must forcefully make people to forget COVID and only then
we can save our economy and the fittest.
None of us are born with the boon of eternity. Hitler, Jesus, Budha and why Ramana Maharshi
and the one who had seen God, Shri Ramakrishana Paramahansa etc., all of them
left the world proving the ultimate truth that we are mortal being. How can we make the life of some people
‘eternal’ by shutting down the country?
What we witness today is the second wave, and after which third wave
will come and so on and so forth. If we had allowed Indians to remain free and
truly democratic, COVID would have disappeared in single wave but we ploughed
heartless politics in India to make COVID story to resonate in our life
forever.
Modi must, if necessary, impose emergency for a while to shut
all those ‘dirty mouths’ that makes unnecessary noise in the name of democracy
and spread fear. Under emergency people can have free and COVID
free life due to no interventions from dynastic politics and so shall from the
so called ‘supreme’ guardian of constitution….
